Story

In August 2012, striking mineworkers at Lonmin’s Marikana mine demanded a living wage. Six days into the strike, South African police opened fire, killing 34 miners. Rehad Desai reconstructs the events through strike leaders, police footage, television archives and evidence from the inquiry that followed.

“An unflinching account of the 2012 massacre of 34 South African miners in Marikana.”
